Keith Amos, composer of The Steadfast Tin Soldier which is now hailed as the natural successor to Peter & the Wolf, has composed another shining example for this popular medium - Narrator and Orchestra.
A simple, comforting story of a warm summer's day on the remote island of Sark, the central character is Lupin, a pot-bellied pig.
The story line is happy and rather magical, the music matchingly enchanting. Lupin has her own theme, there is a beautiful Pastorale entitled Sark Idyll, and, for a wild contrast, there's a Camera Chase. Lupin's Theme has appropriate lyrics, and, incorporated into the score, may be sung by any school choir. There are many choreographic opportunities, especially when Henrietta the chicken and Albert the tomcat enter!
Singable tunes, lush harmonies - this is the essence of Amos' music for Lupin. Audience participation includes whistling Lupin's Theme - it's irresistible, and enjoying "Muddy Mud" - it's a laugh. Float away to Sark during the Idyll.
Lupin the Pot-Bellied Pig has it all: Beauty, Charm, Elegance, Nostalgia, Humour.
